Website Terms of Use

Effective date: 10/01/2026

Welcome to www.heartofmainedoula.org (the "Site"), operated by Heart of Maine Doula Program ("Heart of Maine," "we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. Educational information only, not medical advice

Content on the Site, including our blog, FAQ, and social media posts, is provided for general educational and informational purposes. It is not medical, nursing, midwifery, or legal advice. Doulas provide non-medical support and do not diagnose conditions or provide medical care. Always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare provider about pregnancy, birth, postpartum, or infant health. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking it because of something you read on the Site. In an emergency, call 911.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to submit information through the Site, join our waitlist, enroll in a program, make a purchase, or donate.

3. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Site only for lawful purposes. You will not:

  • Interfere with the Site's operation or security, or attempt to access areas you are not authorized to access

  • Submit false, misleading, or another person's information

  • Send spam, harassing, or abusive content through our forms or comments

  • Use automated tools to scrape or copy Site content

4. Intellectual property

All content on the Site, including text, graphics, logos, curriculum descriptions, and course materials, is owned by or licensed to Heart of Maine and is protected by copyright and trademark law. You may view and print Site pages for your personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, modify, sell, or create derivative works from our content without our prior written permission.

Training materials provided to enrolled students are for use within the Heart of Maine training program only and may not be shared, reproduced, or used outside of training unless we specifically state otherwise.

5. Information you submit

When you contact us, join our waitlist, or otherwise submit information, you confirm that it is accurate and that you have the right to share it. Please do not submit sensitive personal health information through the Site's general forms. Our handling of personal information is described in our Privacy Statement.

6. Enrollment, purchases, and donations

Joining the waitlist does not guarantee a place in any cohort. Program enrollment, tuition, payment schedules, scholarships, and refunds are governed by the separate enrollment agreement and policies provided at the time of enrollment. Purchases and donations made through the Site are processed by third-party payment providers. Heart of Maine has applied to the IRS for recognition as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, and that application is pending. If it is approved, recognition may apply retroactively, and donations made while it was pending may be tax-deductible. Until we receive a determination, we cannot guarantee deductibility, so please consult your tax advisor.

7. Third-party links and services

The Site is hosted by Squarespace and may link to or display content from third parties, such as Instagram, Facebook, community partners, and payment processors. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party sites, content, or practices. Your use of them is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The Site and its content are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that its content is complete or current. Completion of our program does not guarantee employment, income, or certification by any outside organization.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Heart of Maine and its directors, staff, instructors, and volunteers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Site or its content.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maine, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Maine.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes take effect when posted, and the effective date above will be updated. Your continued use of the Site means you accept the revised Terms.
